The Artist is a 2011 French comedy-drama film directed by Michel Hazanavicius, starring Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. Packaged as a silent, black-and-white 1920s melodrama, the film provides audiences a powerful filmgoing experience that works on many levels. 'The Artist' surpassed the $20 million mark at the box office weekend. “The Artist” is the film’s format and the way French Director Michel Hazanavicius uses it as a tool to forward the narrative. Valentin’s response is not far off from that of many real-life silent era stars, some whose careers didn’t stay alive this monumental change in moviemaking.

The film was nominated for six Golden Globes, the most of any film from 2011, and won three; Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Original Score, and Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy (Dujardin). War Horse - Oscar Nominations 2012

War Horse is a 2011 war epic motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg. It is based on both War Horse, a children's novel set before and during World War I, by British author Michael Morpurgo, first published in the United Kingdom in 1982, and the 2007 stage adaptation of the same name. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced five nominations for Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 3, counting for the coveted title of Best Picture; three for Alice in Wonderland, and one each for Day & Night, Tangled, The Tempest and TRON: Legacy.

This Pixar gem is just the third animated film ever chosen for that. "Toy Story 3" was nominated for Best Picture, Best Animated Feature, Original Song and Achievement in Sound Editing.

Shyamalan's action fantasy "The Last Airbender" tied with "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" for most Golden Raspberry nominations. British actor and winner of a Golden Globe this year, Colin Firth is favourite to walk away with the Leading Actor award for his portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech. Nominated for worst picture with "Eclipse" and "Airbender" are Jennifer Aniston's action comedy "The Bounty Hunter," Sarah Jessica Parker's romantic romp "Sex and the City 2" and the "Twilight" parody "Vampires Suck." Annette Benning, Nicole Kidman and Hailee Steinfeld are expected to receive nods from the Academy today.

Mo'Nique rose to fame in the UPN series The Parkers while making a name as a stand-up comedian hosting a variety of venues, including Showtime at the Apollo. Mo'Nique transitioned to film with roles in such films as Phat Girlz, and Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.

she has won numerous awards including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award. She is the sixteenth African American actress to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and the fourth to win. Overall, Mo'Nique is the twelfth individual African-American to win an Oscar for acting; and the seventh winner during the decade of the 2000s.

The project went through a number of directorial changes. Originally, the film was set with Lasse Hallström, but he left over scheduling conflicts. Bharat Nalluri then came on but later left. When Jolie accepted her role, so did Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, but he left over "creative differences" along with Sam Worthington. After many names were mooted, including Alfonso Cuarón, Donnersmarck returned.

Revolves around Frank, an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path.

Storyline

Elise (Angelina Jolie) sits next to an American tourist, Frank (Johnny Depp), on a train going to Venice. She has chosen him as a decoy, making believe that he is her lover who is wanted for police. Not only will they need to evade the police, but also the mobster whose money her lover stole.

Despite its critical reception, the film was nominated for three Golden Globes: Best Musical or Comedy, Depp for Actor Musical or Comedy and Jolie for Actress Musical or Comedy.

Storyline

The Burlesque Lounge has its best days behind it. Tess, a retired dancer and owner of the venue, struggles to keep the aging theater alive, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. With the Lounge's troupe members becoming increasingly distracted by personal problems and a threat coming from a wealthy businessman's quest to buy the spot from Tess, the good fortune seems to have abandoned the club altogether. Meanwhile, the life of Ali, a small-town girl from Iowa, is about to change dramatically. Hired by Tess as a waitress at the Lounge, Ali escapes a hollow past and quickly falls in love with the art of burlesque. Backed by newfound friends amongst the theater's crew, she manages to fulfill her dreams of being on stage herself.

The soundtrack album features ten tracks: eight performed by Aguilera including the album's first single Express; and two performed by Cher which are her first original recordings in 7 years. Both the ballads from the soundtrack - Bound to You performed by Aguilera and You Haven't Seen The Last of Me performed by Cher - were nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. Composer Diane Warren won the Award for You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me.

Burlesque was released on Wednesday, November 24, 2010; it opened in 3,037 theaters in the United States and Canada, during the Thanksgiving week. It was the third highest grossing film during its first day, getting $2.86 million;[26] and by the end of the week it had grossed $17.3 million, $11.9 million of which were from the weekend alone, ranking the movie in fourth place behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Disney’s Tangled, and Megamind.

The film is a sequel to Lewis Carroll's 1865 fantasy novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and by association, the 1951 Disney film based on that novel. Wasikowska plays the now nineteen-year-old Alice who, 13 years after her previous visit, returns for the first time as a young woman. Storyline

Alice, an unpretentious and individual 19-year-old, is betrothed to a dunce of an English nobleman. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called "Underland," she finds herself in a world that resembles the nightmares she had as a child, filled with talking animals, villainous queens and knights, and frumious bandersnatches.

Alice earned $116.1 million in its opening weekend, handily topping the previous record held by 300 ($70.9 million) for the largest opening weekend in March[81] and the record for the largest opening weekend during springtime - the latter previously held by Fast and Furious ($71.0 million). It is currently the eighth highest-grossing opening weekend of all time, the highest opening weekend for a non-sequel - taking the record from Spider-Man - and the highest one as well for a non-holiday, non-summer period. The film also became the highest-grossing film of 2010 within the first three days of release beating Valentine's Day's $106 million gross.
